- In the case of such as listed above, the insurance for students(Gakken-sai, Gakken-bai) may cover the accident.

All students get insurance for injury, accident, house hold as follows.
1. Insurance for injuries from accidents (“Gakkensai”)
Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research(PAS) /1,000 yen
2. Insurance for accidents involving third parties or their property (“Futaibaiseki”) Liability Insurance coupled with PAS /340 yen
3. (Optional) University Co-operative International Student Insurance /7,940 yen
National Health Insurance・Social Insurance Premiums(Pension etc.)
Opening and Closing Bank Accounts
To open an account at Shonai Bank and Japan Post Bank, an appointment is required.
And the day of opening an account, please bring the following items.
- Residence card
- Students card
- Name stamp *1
Students need to open bank account as soon as possible for receiving the scholarship.

Daily Cleaning and Garbage Disposal
Clean your rented room on a daily basis.
If you do not clean the apartment when you leave before returning home, you may be charged a high cleaning fee.
Please leave the room as clean as when you moved in.
Students sharing a room in university accommodations may be asked to leave if the room leave dirty condition.

Rules for Riding a Bicycle



- ■What is “bicycle registration for security”?
- A system to register bicycle owner information with each prefecture to prevent bicycle theft(*Mandatory)
- ■When you purchase a bicycle at a bicycle store, etc., the owner's (you) information is registered.

- You will need to receive “Certificate of Bicycle Ownership Transfer” from previous owner (your friend).

- If you ride your bicycle without
changing the owner information,
you may be suspected of theft and
taken to the police station.


- Case of the bicycle that have been handed down from generation to generation and whose information is not known who is registered as the owner.
- Unfortunately, you can no longer ride that bicycle.
Please dispose of as oversize garbage. (It costs 550 yen.)
* Abandonment is the crime.

Starting and Stopping of Electricity, Water and Gas
Buying Kerosene for Heater
If you use kerosene heaters during the winter, some companies offer a service to deliver kerosene to your home if you order by phone. Payment is made in cash when the kerosene is delivered. Please confirm the minimum delivery amount (e.g., two containers), delivery date and time, and other details before making your request.

Precautions during winter period
Last winter, cold weather caused many water pipes to freeze and burst.
Please be careful to avoid freezing.
■If water pipes freeze and burst:
- Water stops running and toilets and bathroom cannot be used.
- Water leaks onto the floor, etc.
- Repairs will be needed and may cost a lot of money.

On particularly cold days, open a few faucets throughout the house and leave the water running.

When you are sick or injured
At first, please go to the Infirmary on the first floor of the Faculty of Agriculture Hall
(*Building with cafeteria).
When necessary, the nurse will recommend a visit to a medical institution or transport the patient to a medical institution.

Weekday 8:30~17:00
(except Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and others designated by university)
In case of emergency, visit a medical institution or call an ambulance.

When to see a doctor
- Check the department, reception and consultation hours, etc. in advance. In some cases, an appointment may be necessary.
- Bring your National health insurance card and cash.
(If you are a JICA student, bring your Medical card also.) - Bring any information such as medications you usually take.
- If you have any concerns about communication when visiting a medical institution, you can ask for an interpreter.

If you lose something on campus, please contact the Student Center.
If you lose an item outside campus, please contact the police station.

When something in your apartment is broken
When you break something or when something is damaged, do not leave it as it is, but contact the following immediately.
Private apartments → Real estate agencies
University’s Accommodation → International Office
University’s Dormitory → Dormitory superintendent (or Academic affairs)
Take pictures of the damaged area and describe the situation in detail.
If repairs are needed, you may or may not have to pay for them.In some cases, the insurance may be able to fix it.

Dealing with Unwanted Visitors
Visitors may come to your apartment for religious solicitation, donations, or other sales purposes. Always keep your room locked and do not open the door to visitors you do not know who they are. If you do open the door, do so with the door chain in place.
If you do not want a visit, it is important to clearly say "No" and thereafter close the door and do not respond. If you still feel unsafe, call the police. If you feel insecure, please contact the International Office.
